Improved Kinect sensor based motion capturing system for gait assessment

چکیده
Optical motion capturing systems are expensive and require substantial dedicated space to be set up. On the other hand, they provide unsurpassed accuracy and reliability. In many situations however flexibility is required and the motion capturing system can only temporarily be placed. The Microsoft Kinect v2 sensor is comparatively cheap and with respect to gait analysis promising results have been published. We here present a motion capturing system that is easy to set up, flexible with respect to the sensor locations and delivers high accuracy in gait parameters comparable to a gold standard motion capturing system (VICON). Further, we demonstrate that sensor setups which track the person only from one-side are less accurate and should be replaced by two-sided setups. With respect to commonly analyzed gait parameters, especially step width, our system shows higher agreement with the VICON system than previous reports. not peer-reviewed) is the author/funder. متن کاملGait Assessment for Multiple Sclerosis Patients Using Microsoft Kinect
Gait analysis of patients with neurological disorders, including multiple sclerosis (MS), is important for rehabilitation and treatment. The Mircrosoft Kinect sensor, which was developed for motion recognition in gaming applications, is an ideal candidate for an inexpensive system providing the capability for human gait analysis. In this research, we develop a framework to quantify the gait abn...
متن کاملNew Lower-Limb Gait Asymmetry Indices Based on a Depth Camera
BACKGROUND Various asymmetry indices have been proposed to compare the spatiotemporal, kinematic and kinetic parameters of lower limbs during the gait cycle. However, these indices rely on gait measurement systems that are costly and generally require manual examination, calibration procedures and the precise placement of sensors/markers on the body of the patient. METHODS To overcome these i...
متن کاملAccuracy of the Microsoft Kinect sensor for measuring movement in people with Parkinson's disease.
BACKGROUND The Microsoft Kinect sensor (Kinect) is potentially a low-cost solution for clinical and home-based assessment of movement symptoms in people with Parkinson's disease (PD). The purpose of this study was to establish the accuracy of the Kinect in measuring clinically relevant movements in people with PD. METHODS Nine people with PD and 10 controls performed a series of movements whi...
متن کاملPerformance Assessment and Calibration of the Kinect 2.0 Time-of-Flight Range Camera for Use in Motion Capture Applications
Robust, three-dimensional (3D) geometric information is a powerful analytical tool, and it is of interest to determine the size, shape, and geometric properties of objects in the real world when performing pre-mission surveys, deformation analyses, or motion capture analyses. Traditional photogrammetric reconstruction techniques require multiple sensors and retroreflective markers or targets to...
